Surf Recovery in Bali: Hydration, Rest, and Injury Safety

Surf Hard, Recover Sensibly

Bali is a dream destination for surfers. Long paddles, strong sun, tropical heat, and repeated sessions can leave you tired or dehydrated. Recovery begins with hydration, food, sleep, and enough rest between sessions.

No infusion can guarantee faster muscle repair, better surfing performance, or readiness for the next session.

Why Surfing Can Leave You Dehydrated

You may not notice fluid loss while surrounded by water. Heat, humidity, exercise, vomiting, diarrhoea, or alcohol can add to dehydration. Symptoms may include thirst, headache, dizziness, cramps, dark urine, and weakness.

Four Ways to Support Recovery

1. Replace Fluids Gradually

Drink water regularly after your session. Oral rehydration solution can help replace fluids and electrolytes after significant sweating or stomach upset. Sip steadily rather than drinking a large amount at once.

2. Eat a Balanced Meal

Combine carbohydrates with protein to support normal energy replacement and muscle repair. Rice, eggs, fruit, vegetables, fish, chicken, or a balanced smoothie can be practical options.

3. Cool Down and Move Gently

Walk, stretch gently, and allow your breathing to return to normal. Avoid aggressive stretching or another hard session if you have pain, swelling, weakness, or a suspected injury.

4. Prioritise Sleep

Sleep is an important part of recovery. Allow enough rest after travel, poor sleep, or multiple surf sessions.

Surf Injuries Need the Right Care

IV therapy does not treat concussion, fractures, dislocations, ligament injuries, deep reef cuts, marine stings, or infection. A reef cut should be cleaned promptly and assessed when deep, contaminated, painful, swollen, or slow to heal.

Seek urgent care after loss of consciousness, confusion, repeated vomiting, severe headache, neck pain, breathing difficulty after submersion, chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding, deformity, inability to use a limb, or rapidly worsening symptoms.

Where Mobile Hydration May Fit

IV fluids may be considered when dehydration is clinically suspected, and oral hydration is inadequate or inappropriate. A qualified healthcare professional should assess symptoms, medical history, medications, allergies, and injury risks first.

Mobile assessment may be available at eligible villas, hotels, and surf accommodation in Uluwatu, Canggu, and other service areas. It does not replace emergency care, imaging, wound treatment, or specialist injury assessment.

Plan a Safer Next Session

Check conditions, surf within your ability, use sun protection, bring enough fluids, eat before and after surfing, and allow recovery time. Do not return to the water with dizziness, significant weakness, concussion symptoms, or an untreated injury.
